College Stendhal, is a purpose built education establishment based in Nantes, West of France. The college was officially opened on the 11th September 2010.
The college is of a particularly modern architectural design, with a large open atrium. It provides state-of-the-art facilities including a spacious library and IT suite, as well as offering community access for a wide range of courses.
Cesa Park an experienced cabling installer with over twenty years of experience in the industry was chosen to install the network in this brand new building. Cesa Park was chosen partly due to their previous experience in carrying out installs in other educational establishments. With a turnover of
€17,351,953 Cesa Park are a well respected installer in the Nantes region.
It was determined that the college required a network which was able to provide, amongst other things, high speed access to the internet for large numbers of students at any given time.
Working closely with LMV Distribution, Cesa Park was able to ensure the project was completed in the specified timeframe with the minimum amount of fuss. The necessary products were available as and when they were needed, all directly sourced from LMVs stockholding.
LMV Distribution was formed in 2005 and are based in the Rennes area of the West of France. The company specialises in structured cabling solutions and recently have expanded by opening premises in Paris. With a turnover of 4.5 million Euros and a highly motivated team of experienced, loyal staff, they offer a dedicated network of support and advice to their customers.
Excel has been part of the company's product portfolio for the last 3 years. The Excel product range provides an end-to-end solution. Performance and ease of installation are its foundation, along with standards compliance, reliability and product availability.
Excel products come with third party verification, and are an independent 'tick in the box', verifying either a product or a set of products' compliance with a particular standard. Excel works closely with third party test laboratories such as Delta, ETL, and 3P.
Cabling systems installed are often required to have a long life, as it forms the fabric of the building and is disruptive to replace, therefore selecting the Category/Class of cabling to specify for this project needed careful consideration.
Excel Category 6 cable was chosen to meet all application requirements as it is designed for optimal support of High-Speed data protocols delivering 1 Gbps performance to the workstation. It is also designed to be quick and easy to install. Not only was Category 6 cable installed but also Category 6 patch panels and the associated keystone jacks.
The cable, panels and jacks were all brought together in 3 Excel 42U free standing cabinets. These cabinets were installed into the comms room at the college. Excel cabinets were the ideal choice for the job, as they are designed for the installation of both cabling and networking equipment.
All Excel cabinets have been designed with strength, ease of use and aesthetics in mind. Each cabinet corner is welded for maximum strength, enabling up to 400kg loading per unit. The cabinets are feature rich including Incremental 1u markings on the mounting profiles, an angled vented roof and enhanced vertical patch cable management system.
A 90 metre length of Excel OM3 Fibre Optic Cable was also installed for the college's network. Excel fibre cables are designed and manufactured to ensure that optimum performance is possible from installed fibre links. Support of protocols such as 10 Gigabit Ethernet over maximum distances, 300 metres is assured, due to improved bandwidth available as standard.
